60 Day Bikram Challenge – Results

My friend Katelind recently completed a 60-day Bikram yoga challenge. I’m seriously impressed by her! I did a 7-day Bikram challenge one time, and I had to take serious naps every day. 🙂

60 straight days of Bikram! An incredible accomplishment!! Can you describe in words how you felt on that 60th day?

Katelind: I didn’t quite advertise the challenge (ha, your website excluded), so to be honest it felt like just another Thursday. That weekend I was able to reflect on the past 60 days, and I have to say I was most pleased with my level of commitment. I didn’t doubt myself, but I typically have a hard time committing to dinner plans, so this felt significant.

Did you go back to Bikram on Day 61 or did you take a day off?

Katelind: I did! I wanted to see one of my two favorite teachers, so I had to go!

How did 60 days of Bikram make you feel physically? Stronger? Leaner? More energy?

Katelind: When the challenge was finished I took a week off from Bikram to practice at my Vinyasa studio, which I missed terribly. During my week off I ended up practicing Vinyasa twice a day. I had build up quite a bit of endurance and I was noticeably stronger and leaner!

60 days of anything is a huge challenge. What is the biggest lesson you learned about yourself in the process?

Katelind: I learned that I can commit! But also that I can’t be so hard on myself. Skipping a yoga class to grab a drink with a friend can be just as healthy—I swear! Life is one great balancing act. Some days are yoga days and some days just aren’t. My practice has taught me how to find balance inside and outside of the classroom. I’ve learned that vodka and yoga can go hand in hand, phew!

What is your yoga practice like now?

Katelind: Right now i’m practicing Birkram 3-4 days a week and Vinyasa 1-2 days a week. Lately, my Bikram days feel like a hard, sweaty day at the gym, while my Vinyasa days feel like a trip to therapy.

Do you have any tips for newbies to the Bikram practice?

Katelind: Just do it! And then have a cocktail to celebrate…or one of Jenny’s awesome green drinks!
