Raw Food Update

Woo! I’ve been raw for 3 days now – today is day 4. Here are a few updates ..

-Yesterday I was really sick. I have heard that the first 5 days of being raw, people notice detox side effects which sometimes include cold/flu-like symptoms. Considering I switched to raw foods and kicked an intense coffee habit as well, this was to be expected. I had to stay home from work because I felt dizzy, stuffy, and in general – low energy and mentally foggy. I feel a little bit better today – although I still have cold symptoms, my energy is higher

-Eating raw foods is not as hard as I expected. I highly recommend to anyone who’s considering a raw diet to make the gradual change from vegetarian to vegan to raw – and don’t do it too quickly, let your body adjust. Since I’ve been strict vegan for a few months prior to going raw, the effect on my body was not as intense. Same goes with food cravings. If I had switched from a high-sugar, high-dairy diet to raw immediately, it would have been more of a challenge.

-I do feel like I’m losing a little weight already. I don’t weigh myself because it messes with me, but I am wearing a pair of jeans that were too tight last week.

-What have I been eating?

-Bananas

-Fruit salad (I like berries and mangoes the best)

-Flax Snax

-Lara bars (apple pie is sooo yummy!)

-Guacamole with baby carrots

-Raw almonds

-kale chips

-Salad with raw veggies – and I made a really delicious dressing the other day: olive oil, avocado, sea salt, & lime juice! toss it in with a huge amount of mixed greens. it’s amazing!!

-Coconut water

-Kombucha

Anyway, it’s been fun so far. I feel like I’m eating a ton of food! I’m thinking tonight I’m either going to make another big salad or go to a raw restaurant in NYC.
