This weekend, Leo and I were looking for something to do that would be inexpensive, fun and high vibe. A day trip from NYC sounded perfect. I’ve been wanting to check out Woodstock, NY for a long time – ever since my friend Becky told me she spent a great weekend there. When I did a little more research, I realized there were tons of super cool (and super high vibe) things to check out!! I highly recommend making the trip – it’s just 2 hours outside the city.
Our first stop was the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary.
The sanctuary provides shelter to farm animals who have been rescued from cases of abuse, neglect and abandonment. It was so much fun to meet and play with these new friends. We learned a lot about the factory farming industry and how it affects the environment, the animals, and our health. Learn more here.
Next we checked out an amazingly beautiful Tibetan Buddhist monastery.
We walked around town for awhile, stopping in some interesting stores and flea markets.
At the end of the day, we had dinner at an AWESOME vegan restaurant, Garden Cafe. I swear, this food rivals the best vegan restaurants in NYC. I had the Garden Bowl special, which was sauteed greens (cooked to perfection), Mexican barley salad with orange sauce, and tempeh with avocado/pumpkin seed dressing. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. SERIOUSLY! That’s saying a lot, because whenever I go to a healthy restaurant, I usually think of about 50 things I’d change about it (the Virgo perfectionist in me). So trust me, don’t go to Woodstock without stopping here!
As if the day couldn’t get any more perfect, we saw a rainbow.
I felt so relaxed and at ease just being in Woodstock. It is such a magical escape from the city. If you’re in NYC, I highly recommend you take a day trip up there, bond with some animals and check out the town. :)

I am so glad you guys made it up there! I knew you’d love it. I’m fairly sure that’s the same restaurant I went to and also remember it being fantasic. And the monestary! The pics of the animals are so cute. If you ever want to make a trip again, let me know and we’ll join!
