Recently, I was sent a free package of Clearly Fresh produce bags to review here on Healthy Crush. I have to admit, I don’t really have a storage “regimen” for my produce – depending on what it is, I either keep it in a bowl on the counter, in a drawer in the fridge, or in the plastic produce bag from the store. I’ve never really had an issue with produce storage (that I knew of), but I decided to try these bags out and do a little test, just to see what would happen.
So what is a Clearly Fresh bag?
Clearly Fresh bags claim to keep your produce fresh for 50% longer because of the 3-inch square that allows produce to breathe.
After doing some research on Clearly Fresh, I decided to try a little test with a couple of different things that I do usually keep in produce bags — kale and cilantro.
My usual scenario with kale and cilantro is this — I keep them in the plastic produce bags from the store, and leave them open a little in order for them to breathe.
I decided to test the Clearly Fresh bags for a week. Usually after about a week, both my kale and my cilantro are getting soft, wilty, and start to get discolored.
SO – I got some kale & cilantro and split them between 2 bags – regular supermarket bags & Clearly Fresh bags.
With both the kale & cilantro, after a week the ones in the Clearly Fresh bags were still totally crisp, green and perfect. In the supermarket bags, they had started to wilt & lose their color. I accidentally ate all the kale before I could snap a picture (I tried not to, I swear). But the cilantro I was able to capture.
Check it out:

RIGHT: Clearly Fresh Bag (crisp, green cilantro)
COOL!! These bags do actually deliver on their promise. Overall it was a fun test and made me realize I could be reaping the benefits of keeping produce fresh longer, more often. Food for thought! :)
