Lately I’ve been feeling like there’s a bit too much soy in my life. Now, let’s get one thing straight – I haven’t done enough research on the whole soy controversy to give hard facts about soy nutrition, so that’s not what this post is about. But I do find that being a vegetarian means soy shows up a lot. When I realized how much soy milk my boyfriend and I were going through in a week, I started thinking it was time to find an alternative.
Enter coconut milk. I’m already a huge fan of coconut water, so I figured this would be a fantastic beverage to try. Turns out it’s delicious and jam-packed with health benefits.
This is the brand I’ve tried (So Delicious) but I’m sure there are many other wonderful brands out there – tip me off to any you enjoy, please!
According to this article on eHow.com, “The saturated fat in coconut is made up of short-chain and medium-chain fatty acids that the body quickly turns into energy instead of storing as fat. Therefore…coconut can aid in weight loss.”
Coconut milk is also said to moisturize the skin and boost the immune system to fight off disease.
Best of all, it’s soy and dairy free. And why wouldn’t you want an extra dose of tropical bliss in your day?
Check your local market for coconut milk, or try making it yourself.
Cheers!
