“How well can you become? How high can it go? It is possible to feel good ALL THE TIME.” – David Wolfe
Last week, I was fortunate enough to be able to tune into a webinar with David Wolfe, hosted by Uri Feiner from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. The topic of the webinar was superfoods, and in just 30 minutes I learned so much fascinating information!
David Wolfe has been a professional nutritionist for over 16 years now and is a highly respected raw food and superfood guru (or as he calls it, a “gastronaut”). Known as David “Avocado” Wolfe or “The Chocolate Man,” his knowledge is extensive and he believes powerfully in the statement, “what you eat becomes you.”
David began the webinar by telling us that our level of thought, state of emotions, and feelings about ourselves and the world are all strongly affected by the foods we put into our bodies. He said, “I’m never sick. Ever. I’ve pre-loaded my body with superfoods and superherbs.”
So what exactly are superfoods? According to David, a superfood doesn’t just boast one or two health benefits. It must have “extraordinary levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants” and “10 to 12 tricks up its sleeve.”
That being said, here’s what I learned in the webinar about David Wolfe’s favorite superfoods and some of their benefits:
Maca – A thyroid supporting food with 18 amino acids. Supports our hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Increases vigor, vitality, helps us adapt to stress.
Acai – A miracle superfood that fights 80% of cancers and promotes longevity. Has a blue pigment in its skin that is highly beneficial to our immune system and cell production. High in omega 3s. Higher demand for acai could help to save the Amazon rainforest that the acai berry calls home.
Bee Pollen and Royal Jelly – Both promote longevity. Beekeeprs live long due to their intake of bee pollen – the most complete food in the world according to David. A complete protein with 50-60 minerals, and highly bioavailable.
Honey – Our #1 source of digestive enzymes. Helps the body remove metabolic waste, and has been known to increase the IQ of children by 10 points!
Aloe Vera – Anti-fungal, contains polysaccharaides that protect our immune system.
Raw Cacao – Contains magnesium, chromium, iron, zinc and copper. Great for your brain and heart (the main mineral in our heart is magnesium). “Cacao is #1 in the world for antioxidants of any fruit/nut.”
Goji berry – a complete protein, high in antioxidants, amino acids and polysaccharides. “Eat them raw and have the best day ever.”
Noni – Fresh noni or fresh noni powder, high in vitamins and minerals, helps repair our cells inside and out.
Coconut oil – Thyroid supporting. Coconut oil is the best for your skin. Contains medium-chain fatty acids that hydrate tissue and support immune system. Our bodies will push poor oils out of our system, drive residue out, and replace it with the healthier coconut oil. The high quality nutrients will be absorbed, and the body will push out the “toxic imposters.”
Kelp – Full of nutrients – contains iodine – saved people from radiation sickness during Hiroshima.
Blue Green Algae and Spirulina – Full of amino acids and antioxidants – amazing for the immune system and helps produce stem cells. Combined with the camu camu berry, this is the “best immune system weaponry.”
Marine Phytoplankton – The basis for the world’s food chain. Contains ATP, which is the energy currency of our body. The ATP will give you instant energy with no stimulation. David calls this “so profound.” He assures us that we can stay up all night without crashing or affecting our immune system with marine phytoplankton. We’re alert, awake – but not stimulated like we would be with caffeine.
Wolfe touched upon our abusive relationships with drugs like coffee and alcohol. He says of turning to raw superfoods instead – “when you come into that sacred relationship with food, there is no space left for abuse.” He assured us that a diet of superfoods and superherbs is “the best high…the best connection…the best spiritual experience…purity is its own reward!”
He even said that superfoods affect our DNA and “flip on the genes to activate the highest capacity of genius.” So awesome.
If you’re interested in learning more about nutrition and overall health, or starting a new career in the health and wellness industry, consider enrolling at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN).
What does David Wolfe think about IIN?
“IIN teaches you how to think for yourself, without telling you what to think. As a group, IIN grads are doing better than any nutrition education group I’ve seen. The economic downturn is the best thing that ever happened for the potential and demand for health counselors. It has turned us towards our core values – health, clean living and exercise programs. Everything in your life becomes valueless if you lose your health. This is just the beginning of an enormous revolution in human spirit – to take control of our diet.” – David Wolfe
Overall David Wolfe’s webinar was absolutely mesmerizing. This blog post is just a sample of what he has to offer you in terms of knowledge about your health. To learn more from him, pick up one of his books:
