Hey guys,
I was talking to my friend Jamie on the phone this morning about being stressed about packing to move out of my apartment tomorrow. After listening to me talk about packing boxes and making clothing donations for a few minutes, she changed the subject to Hurricane Harvey and how devastating it is to see what the people in Houston are going through.
Immediately, I realized how lucky I was to be safe and dry in my apartment, and how if the worst thing that’s happening to me right now is that I have a lot of logistics to take care of for my move — well, I’m extremely blessed to be in that situation. People are really, really struggling and many homes and lives have been destroyed.
If we’re lucky enough to have any kind of home right now that feels safe, even if we’re in transition, we are fortunate.
Right after that conversation, I opened up instagram and my friend Symphony had re-posted a video from NFL player JJ Watt about his fundraising efforts to help the hurricane victims and their families.
His original goal was $200,000 for hurricane relief funds, but he’s currently raised $8.5 million at the time that I’m writing this post. I just made a donation, and hopefully we’ll wake up tomorrow morning seeing that number at $10 million.
Here’s the link to donate to support the people of Houston.
I was so inspired to see how quickly the donations are going up, and how everyone is coming together to support each other. That’s a really beautiful thing. I figured this is the least I can do to help – to share that link, and to make a donation.
My thoughts and prayers go to Houston and everyone there who needs all the support they can get to begin to rebuild their lives.
Here’s that link again for JJ Watt’s Hurricane Harvey Fundraiser.
Also, I’ve been watching Brené Brown’s instagram account after she posted this photo of her front yard in Houston, and she says they need underwear donations. More info on that here.
Pass it on.
Love,
Jenny
