I’m starting 2012 off with a juice cleanse. A longer juice cleanse than I’ve ever done before. Here’s the juicer I’m using.
Why? Well, for a bunch of reasons.
- I got a new juicer for Christmas – the Breville Juice Fountain Elite. A homemade juice cleanse feels like the perfect way to get acquainted with it! I’ve never owned a juicer before so I’m gonna dive right in and get friendly with it.
- I watched the documentary “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead“ twice recently. Those guys juiced for 60 days!!! If that documentary doesn’t inspire you to do a juice cleanse, probably nothing will. :)
- I want to start off 2012 with a clear mind and clean body – to set myself up for the most creative, inspired, healthy year.
- I’ve never documented a juice cleanse before, so posting about it here will give me support and accountability.
- I’ve been cooking (and eating) A LOT from Thanksgiving through the holidays, and I’m psyched to give myself a break and chill with some juice.
- I’ve been craving a challenging project that will be interesting to my blog readers.
- I know I’ll feel freakin awesome if I can complete the cleanse. I’m gonna blast my body with ridiculous amounts of nutrients and totally detox my system.
How long will my cleanse be? Well, I’m aiming for 10 days. I’ve never done 10 days before on just juice. Like I said, I wanted a challenging project to kick off the new year and this will be really challenging for me.
What will I be drinking? It’s going to be a different variety of fruit/vegetable juices, lots of water, and herbal tea. I’m not giving myself any type of limit on how much juice I can have. Just drinking as much juice as I feel like drinking.
I’ll be posting a new juice recipe every single day, for those of you who have juicers!
Get my juice recipes in one easy, printable PDF!
Will I be exercising? I plan to go to yoga classes (probably mainly basic/restorative classes) as much as possible, and walk/jog as my energy levels allow.
I promise to post an update every day on how it’s going. When I first started getting into nutrition, I LOVED reading blogs that documented daily updates on new health endeavors – raw food diets, juice cleanses, etc. I’d read through them for hours. I just loved reading about the different feelings and symptoms people had and what the results were. I hope my daily updates on the cleanse will provide interesting or useful info for people.
Truth be told, the main reason I’m doing this is for mental + emotional cleansing. During a cleanse/detox you can really take the time to meditate and go inward. Giving your digestive system a break gives you the chance to detox, heal, rest and recharge. It can really help you to develop a stronger sense of intuition, let go of addictions and get to know yourself better. Since my main intention for 2012 is to pour more authenticity into every area of my life, I should probably get crackin’ on that whole “knowing myself better” thing. ;)
I’m really nervous. I’m really excited. I hope you’ll check out my updates as I go along!
If you’re embarking on any type of cleanse, detox or new health regimen for 2012, let’s support each other! Let me know in the comments section how your own cleanse is going – staying accountable and checking in with others is the best way to keep your motivation high!!! I truly appreciate the support and I’ll do my best to support you, too.
So cheers to a bright, magical new year – here we go!!!

Wishing you the best during your cleanse and beyond, Jenny!
I am juicing until dinner for the entire month of January (ala “The Rose Cleanse” by Natalia Rose)! If I feel so inclined, I will most likely do a 5-day juice fast at the beginning of February. I’ve done a 4-day fast and felt amazing. 10 days would have to be awesome!!! I’m reading Arnold Ehret’s books about fasting and it’s so fascinating to see just how beneficial long fasts are, when properly administered!
You are so right – accountability and group support are SO helpful when embarking on a cleanse! Looking forward to reading your updates!

I completed a 30-day juice fast/feast this summer and it was GREAT! Quite easy once I got past day 5 or 6… so I recommend that you make yourself stick with it past the tough days… once you get to day 10, you will most likely want to keep going because it is so much easier at that time.
Today I am starting a 30-day juice/smoothie cleanse… I’m excited!

Perfect timing! I am aiming to do a 3-day juice fast starting Jan 2. There are many challenging aspects of doing a juice fast for me. First, I’m a marathoner and am used to being very active, which I will have to cut back on as I won’t be able to replenish well from hard workouts. Second, a lot of the time my days are based around my meals and I am very attached to food and having those ceremonies. Last, but probably my least worry is the physical discomfort of feeling hungry, tired, etc. I’m so excited to challenge myself as well, and I know I will feel so much better after the cleanse. I can’t wait to read about your experience and maybe you will inspire me to extend my cleanse! Cheers to starting the new year off right!

That is great Jenny and very impressive. I don’t have a juicer but I did learn how I could turn my veggie/fruit smoothies into juice easily so I can’t wait for your recipes. I am going to do a fast as well but I planned on a juice/water/tea and soup type of fast. Looking forward to reading about your progress, you can do it !

Good luck, Jenny! I’m doing a 6 day cleanse, which is the longest I’ve ever gone! I start on 1/4, so I’ll be sure to read your posts for support and motivation!

Hello I’m looking at getting the same juicer, at the moment I just have green smoothies most days for breakfast and it has made such a difference. I’m 37 weeks pregnant so a cleanse isn’t something in looking at doing right away but I do love reading about other peoples experiences. I recently did an 8 week quit sugar program and was amazed at the results so am continuing with it an have also cut out grains from my diet, so far so good!
Good luck with the cleanse, will be looking forward to the updates, happy new year :)

Hey Jenny-
Good luck with your challenge. It’s not something I’m into doing, but I’m focusing on eating more vegetables for 2012. I want to buy a vegetable I’ve never tried and this weekend I randomly grabbed a spaghetti squash and added some spices/herbs and some Newman’s Own Marinara Sauce. Yummie. :) I posted the recipe on my blog, if you are interested.

This is all so exciting to me! I started my new healthy lifestyle (really 2 yrs ago working on the mental stuff that gor me over weight) but started looking at the food aspect of it in january.. I am into getting fit and healthy. I have a personal trainer got a juicer from a neighbor and am so psyched! I have been eating all the power foods but have been turned on to green smoothies and juicing. I am considering a fast. I am a bit nervous as I have never done one and want to assure I am getting enough calories and nutrients. I am going to continue to figure out my plan so hopefully next week I can start! Reading everyones posts are very encouraging! Thanks for sharing!

Hello,
I love this blog and thanks for the recipes!
I’m wondering: how much homemade juice can one drink in a day? Is there such a thing as too much?
Thanks so much,
Lorraine

Hey Everyone, I am doing a 10 day fast and bought my first juicer today with my husband. I am a little over weight but stress is going to kill me. My kidney’s are shutting down literally and I feel like crap everyday. So I am going to focus on cleaning out and learning to deal with my stress. I hope you all can encourage me because I need every bit of help I can get.

I am so happy I found your site! I cant wait to check out your juice recipes. I have had a Blendtech blender for a couple years and LOVE IT! My husband and I use it every night to make a fruit smoothy instead of eating ice cream. He has lost about 10 pounds over the 2 years we have been doing this!
I would like to start a juice cleanse this week before I start a 3 day Durkin diet. AGAIN, Thanks for the recipes and INSPIRATION! :)
