I’m beyond excited about the gift I just received in the mail. As a “thank you” from one of my health coaching clients for helping her lose 10 lbs (she did all the work herself!), she sent me this wonderful cookbook. I love it!!
The book is called Moosewood Restaurant – Cooking for Health: More than 200 new vegetarian and vegan recipes for delicious and nutrient-rich dishes. Um…can you say PERFECT? I can’t wait to dig into this! I’ve been reading through the book and it’s totally on par with the health-supportive cooking I’ve been practicing lately.
The actual Moosewood Restaurant is located in Ithaca, NY – specializing in healthful natural foods cuisine. Luckily they’ve put together this extremely informative book for all of us who can’t easily make it out to Ithaca to enjoy their food.
From the book:
“What always remains fresh and constant is the joy we find in cooking and delight in eating. And now, we can’t imagine separating the enjoyment of food from its healthfulness. Eating well feels good.“
I could not agree more, my Moosewood friends!
Here are a few examples of some of the recipes – there are so many drool-worthy sounding ones.
- Mushroom-Walnut Spread
- Chickpea Crepes
- Azuki Bean and Spinach Soup
- Sweet Potato, Apple and Chipotle Soup
- Chunky Guacamole Sandwich
- Tempeh-Quinoa Burgers
- Polenta Casserole with Winter Squash and Greens
- Fourteen Ways to Embellish Brown Rice
YUM! Is your mouth watering yet!?
Also included is information on the importance of organics, locally grown food, pesticide levels in different kinds of produce, and health information on virtually every ingredient and cooking method. Tons of great stuff in here! I can’t believe I didn’t have this book before.
So if you’re in the cookin’ mood this fall and want to whip up some health-supportive and delicious home-cooked meals…check out this cookbook and plant yourself in the kitchen!
A couple of tricks to make your home-cooking experience even more soul-enriching:
- Light a candle/incense
- Put on your favorite mellow music (right now I’m loving Missy Higgins)
- Make sure your kitchen counter/stove area are clean and neat so you can comfortably spread out your ingredients
- Put your positive energy into the act of cooking – the food will come out tasting better!
Enjoy and please let me know if you try any of the recipes from this book!!
