Trying to meditate, if you’re new to it, can seem like quite a daunting task.
When I was first introduced to meditation, I thought “Sit in complete silence and try to stop thinking?! That will probably give me even more anxiety!” The truth is, even the most chilled out Zen masters probably didn’t fully get it the first time around. It doesn’t feel natural at first, and if you’re anything like me, you may need a little assistance.
I’ve tried a few different meditation techniques (guided, group, solo, Holosync, etc) and I’ve found that having the right music makes a huge difference. So far, the right music for me is Helios. It’s pure magic, folks. The first time I heard Helios (in a group meditation led by Gabrielle), I had one of the best meditations I’ve ever experienced.
The music that Helios (Keith Kenniff) presents to us can be described as ambient, electronic, dreamy. The 2 albums I recommend for meditative purposes are Caesura and Eingya. The first song I heard that brought me to that intense meditative state is called Dragonfly Across an Ancient Sky. Preview it here. It is pure bliss!! Other favorites are Come With Nothings, Fourteen Drawings, Emancipation, Hope Valley Hill…the list goes on.
All you have to do is turn on one of these tracks, sit down, close your eyes, and let yourself drift. Relax and let your mind wander, let your thoughts come and go, don’t judge them…just allow yourself to be still and hear the sounds. I have a very active imagination, so sometimes when I’m listening to these songs during a meditation, I see vibrant colorful images and visions. The music can easily conjure up beautiful nature scenes and cascades of glowing light.
If you don’t want to meditate, but you’re looking for some totally chill background music, Helios is amazing for that too. My friend Rebecca uses Helios as background music when she teaches yoga classes. My mom listens to Helios while she’s driving through the mountains. I listen to it while I’m at the office. It creates such a calming vibe. I’m grateful that I’m able to share it with you here. If you know of other artists that produce similar sounds, please contact me and spread the love. :)
Now….go download some Helios and bliss out!
