So it’s been about a year since i first read about going raw here on Steve Pavlina’s blog. I read Steve’s entire 30-day raw food diet, detail by detail, mesmerized by it. I knew that at some point soon, I’d have to try going raw. It just seemed like the right thing to do. Kind of like when I first stepped foot in NYC, I just got that feeling that I was supposed to move here. Everytime I heard about someone who was once raw, or currently raw, I felt like I wanted to pick their brain and learn more.
Not sure what happened, but this weekend it just clicked for me. It’s time to try and see how it feels. I don’t think it should be too crazy of a change since I’ve gradually gone from vegetarian to vegan – so essentially, all I’m really going to be cutting out now by trying raw is soy/fake meat products and grains (and, well, anything cooked).
The basics of a raw diet are eating raw uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
I’m not putting a time goal on this raw eating, but I would love to do it for a month and see what happens.
Anyway, another thing I should mention is that there are a lot of “rules” and stuff that some raw foodists adhere to. I’m not going to be crazy about it, just going to try for a MOSTLY raw diet. So if I post something on here that I ate and some raw foodists wouldn’t eat that…well, then don’t eat it. i’m definitely not trying to teach anyone the ‘correct’ way to be raw, or anything like that. i will give it my best shot though :)
It has been super easy so far today. I had a banana and some flax snax for breakfast….a spinach salad with fresh veggies, guacamole and sliced mango for lunch. Not sure what dinner will be yet, but probably more fruit and veggies. I’ll continue to update the blog as I go along to see what kind of progress I’m making.
Luckily I live in NYC so there are like a million places to get raw food, including raw chocolate, cookies, etc. So although I’ll definitely be depriving my wallet for sure, hopefully I won’t feel too deprived as far as the eating goes. My boyfriend was raw for a long time too, so he’s been giving me a lot of good tips.
The only thing that royally sucks so far is giving up coffee. I have a massive headache!! That is probably a sign that I drink wayyy too much caffeine in general.

All the best with going RAW! I know what you mean about the coffee. I’ve been able to go to decaf but not been able to give it up totally…at least not yet. I started out on my Raw journey end of last April. It’s definitely going to take me some time.
Good luck to you. There’s lots of great info on the net!
hugs to you
